The Oscars, traffic cameras, parking tickets and the stomach bug. Welcome to Friday Fragments…

Yikes is it cold, no frigid in Philadelphia today. No snow in our area other than dustings just lots of wind and cold.

Thank goodness it’s Friday because I have got to get rid of some fragments especially the first one. If you would like to join us and we would love to have you just stop by and read all about it here. Be sure and say hello to our lovely host Mrs. 4444.

Friday Fragments

I was in the city this morning for an appointment at the University of Pa. Hospital. It is a great hospital but like in any city, the parking is horrible. As I was driving home, I noticed something on my windshield. I was on a highway so luckily it stayed there until I could stop. It was a ticket (301.00) for parking in a handicap spot. I did not park in a handicap spot. I would never do that. Now I have to call, probably write letters and take photos…ugghh.  If it never happened before I might not be so upset but it happens all the time. There is a bridge in Delaware that I go over quite often and nearly every single time I get a violation in the mail saying I did not pay the toll. It is so annoying!

Thank you for letting me vent I feel better now.

My friend Joelle is home from the hospital. Thank you to all of you who continue to pray for her and her family. We need to continue praying to keep this cancer away. Her husband Nat had to go back to Afghanistan.  He could use some prayers and good thoughts too. Our friend Tina is still down there helping with the children, the house and Joelle’s recovery.  I am hoping to get down for a visit very soon.

Last weekend we had four of our granddaughters for the weekend. The baby, Peyton got very sick with a stomach virus. We ended up taking her to the ER because her fever got so high she had a seizure. It was scary. Kids are just so amazing though, the next day she was running around and playing like nothing was ever wrong. Guess what I was doing the next day. That is one mean stomach bug!  Luckily, it was a 24 hr. (more like 48hr.) thing and I feel so much better now.

There is a possibility the summer Olympics could be happening in Philadelphia. I am not quite sure how I would feel about that since at least half of my life involves getting to the other side of the city. I guess it would be amazing to see some of the games.

Will you be watching the Oscars? How many of the movies have you seen? I have not seen them all but the ones I saw were SO good. I’m really pulling for Silver Linings Playbook. I’m hoping for some decent fashions too. I’m so tired of the shock factor…

Are you watching American Idol? Nikki is still getting on my nerves. Most of the contestants are getting on my nerves too. I may just stop watching until it gets closer to the end.

I am having dinner next week with an old friend. I have not seen her in at least 20 years. I am really looking forward to it!

We are updating the grandkids room, with their help. Morgan worked on the sky last weekend.

These two worked on wearing my glasses. I asked them what they needed glasses for and they said they were going to write. How cute is that?

I hope the Phillies are good this year.

Have a blessed weekend,

  • I can’t stand Nikki’s voice, and she’s way too complimentary to singers who don’t deserve it.

Fortunately, my kids never had seizures, but the thought was always terrifying–I’m so glad your granddaughter is okay, and I hope you won’t sick long.

  • I hope the little one gets to feeling better. I’m following you via Twitter. I host Fluster Creative Muster Party on Wednesdays and I would love it if you would come by and party with us. Hope to see you there!

    Hugs, Smiles, and Blessings,

    Fluster Buster

  • OMGoodness…I swear, I think the ‘cops’ – be they parking lot ‘cops’ or city cops tend to just hand out tickets at random to make their day’s quota. I would protest loudly for THAT ticket!! And I too have had the state mail me that I didn’t pay a toll, and I’ve never EVEN USED a toll road. Last time, when I called, they checked their video and said to me “Yes, it wasn’t your vehicle, it was an SUV and misread license plate number”…well, duh.

  • How stinking cute are the girls, love them with the glasses. Have a great week. Hope you had a great birthday.

  • Joyce:

I hadn’t heard the Olympic news… What year? I think it would be a mess, but a fun mess. I’m from that part of the country too. I watched some of the Oscars and was mostly happy with the results. We’ve seen all but one of the best picture nominees and I have to say, enjoyed them all.

I’m also hoping the Phil’s have a good year!

  • I got nailed by a traffic camera when I first moved down here. Learned that driving in the south is a little different! 🙂

We watched the preshow, but not the actual ceremony.

Hope your granddaughter is feeling better!

  • The glasses girls are cute – – – of course if the time ever comes when they HAVE to wear glasses, they may NOT find them so “cute.”

  • That is annoying (the ticket thing.) I think they do that counting on the fact that someone may forget and not fight it and just pay it to save the trouble.

Yes, we have been watching Idol (my sweet husband has been watching with me) we’ve been only watching one day, because I get sick of it easily. I totally feel you about Nikki. I love Mariah Carey, but really, who’d a thought she’d be the sensible one not caring whether a girl is smiling during a sad song. I agree about the singers. I think it has to do with a lot of them being so young. I’m still pulling for Lazaro. I hope he didn’t get sent home.

My husband is pulling for Silver Linings too. I’m not sure. I’m torn.

  • I’m rooting for Silver Linings Playbook, too. It’s actually the only one I’ve seen, but I loved it and Bradley Cooper’s blue eyes! How fun to meet up with your friend after 20 years! Be sure to take photos!!

  • We are having such a good time and they are taking it so seriously. I cannot wait to see how it all turns out.

  • pat:

It’s always nice to have help decorating. The children will have great memories of this experience and so will you!

  • Thank you for stopping over. First of all I am so sorry for the tragic death of your brother. I am a follower but haven’t been here in a long time. Praying for Joelle and glad to hear your granddaughter is doing okay. Yes I will be watching the Oscar’s. I have seen all but 2 of the Best Movie Nominations. Silver Lining Playbook is our favorite but it is up against some tough competition. I am not watching Idol this season because I don’t care for the judges but am thinking of tuning in to see the final six. Enjoy your weekend.

  • We just went through something similar to your ticket situation with being assessed toll booth violations … for a tollway we’ve never traveled in a city we haven’t been to in 20+ years. Hope you get yours resolved quickly without too much headache.

I will pray for your friend Joelle and her family.

    Your grands are so precious!

  • Tish:

sorry about your ticket … what an annoyance. i hope it all works out for you. i do watch idol and nikki is getting on my nerves as well!!

we don’t live too far from one another. i am about 3 hours northwest of you in williamsport. we head to Philly now and then for shopping and/or shows. 🙂 have a great weekend.

  • The ticket issue is totally annoying. I’m so sorry to hear the little one had such a hard time with the stomach flu, but happy to know that things are back to normal.

  • Kay:

Oh, I have heard of cities doing that sort of thing to drum up money. They are banking on people just paying for the citations instead of fighting it. How frustrating is that!!!

I somehow missed that you were in Philadelphia! Hubby would love to go to Westminster for his PhD someday. We may bump into you then?

So glad you hang onto your grands. That is a blessing!! Kids are so resilient, not at all like us, eh?? I am trying to side step the kids cold, but I think I am about to lose 🙁

We will be praying for Joelle. I have had a hubby deployed and it’s just no fun going through this sort of thing while dealing with that 🙁

  • There was probably an invisible handicap sign there. You need special glasses to see those. Mention my name (PTM) in your letter and you won’t have to pay.

  • That would make me so mad to get tickets I didn’t deserve. Cute grandkids. So adorable with your glasses on.
