Writing Wednesday

Writing snoopy 1

On Wednesday’s I like to share information I picked up on my path to publishing, marketing and preparing to publish again. Information that I wish someone would have shared with me, back then.

Blogging Challenges

Some bloggers love them and others think they are a useless waste of time. 4-years- ago, when I was a brand new blogger I thought it would be a good idea to try one. The A-Z April Blogging Challenge was started in 2010 by Los Angeles Blogger, Arlee Bird.

I was definitely stressed out that first April. Blogging every single day was definitely a challenge but I also had a lot of fun. Better than the fun was meeting so many other bloggers, learning that reading and commenting on other blogs and writing fabulous content was the only way to grow my readers and that writing a post every day was good exercise.

It was also pretty handy to have 26- blog posts in the pipeline that could be expanded on and used in the future.

Some participants challenge themselves further by choosing a theme. Last year because I was writing The Stranger In My Recliner, my theme was homelessness.

This year I will announce my theme along with other participants on March 2st.

So, could you post every day except Sundays during the month of April? To up the bar, can you blog thematically from A to Z?

If you are up to the challenge we would love to have you join us.

You can find more information and the sign-up list here:

Also happening in April is the 2016 BAM Conference. I am looking forward to spending time with a group of the most fabulous bloggers and I am so excited to be speaking this year! For more information:

Happy Writing,

  • I try to write everyday, even it’s just a “to do” list!

  • I enjoy reading everyone’s posts and admire their ability to wrote every day. I just can’t do it—I get writer’s block too often to write every single day. Wish I could go to BAM, but I’m already signed up for ERMA, which is also a fantastic conference.

  • Doreen, you are very disciplined! I look forward to asking you in person at BAM one very puzzling question: how you make time for both blogging and book writing. See you in April!

  • I am going to BAM for the first time this year. Looking forward to your talk!

  • Aw, wish I could got to BAM! Can you lovely ladies come over and do BAM London (UK)?

  • and now I’m all sad because I live a million miles away and won’t be going to BAM any time in the near (or distant) future 🙁 I hope you all have a wonderful time and raise a toast to absent friends! I’m also now seriously considering the April Challenge and whether I’m up for it or not – the pendulum is swinging towards having a go!

  • I’m super impressed by your drive! I wish I could go to BAM. Maybe next time for sure.

  • Good luck! You’re amazing!

  • I am so looking forward to BAM! So glad we’ll be roomies! If airfares don’t come into line maybe we should make it a road trip. That might be fun. I won’t be able to join the daily blog challenge. It’s just not in me to blog every day. But I will be encouraging you on the sidelines.

    • I cannot wait either! The challenge is absolutely going to challenge the hell out of me this year, so much else going on. John has been checking airfares and said they are coming down. Fingers crossed!

  • I loved doing a challenge last year. I got to know a great group of bloggers, read some fascinating stuff and push myself to write every day. It wasn’t always easy but was well worth it.

I’m sorry I’ll miss you at BAM but cherish that I met you, and got to spend quality time with you, at last year’s. Enjoy!

  • Wait. Did I just read that you will also be at BAM? That I will actually be able to meet you and tell you how much I adore the way you share your publishing journey? Seriously? Oh, now THAT gets me excited!
