#MusicMonday Memories

This week was the 3rd anniversary of the loss of one of my favorite people. I miss her…

When I met Joelle she was a teenager, the most interesting teenager I ever met. She loved to sing and was the first head-banger I ever metJ She introduced me to White Snake and Guns and Roses.

My friend Tina and I were pleasantly surprised when she joined her father’s country band, Ninety Proof. I don’t think we ever missed a performance.

Joelle grew up, moved to North Carolina and got married. It was there she became a believer and fell in love with gospel music. She introduced Me and Tina to MercyMe and we loved them immediately.

MercyMe is an American contemporary Christian music band founded in Greenville, Texas. The band consists of vocalist Bart Millard, keyboardist James Bryson, percussionist Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael Scheuchzer and Barry Graul.

This was Joelle’s favorite song and it played as she went to Heaven:

Another of Joelle’s favorites was Gun’s n Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine. I was shocked to learn this song was about a mother who had died. I cry every time I hear it.

She’s got a smile that it seems to me

Reminds me of childhood memories

Where everything

Was as fresh as the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face

She takes me away to that special place

And if I’d stare too long

I’d probably break down and cry

Sweet child o’ mine

Sweet love of mine

She’s got eyes of the bluest skies

As if they thought of rain

I hate to look into those eyes

And see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place

Where as a child I’d hide

And pray for the thunder

And the rain

To quietly pass me by

Sweet child o’ mine

Sweet love of mine

Where do we go

Where do we go now

Where do we go

Sweet child o’ mine

This was the most popular country song the week Joelle passed away. It brings me to tears every time I hear it. I also crave beer (which I never drink) when I hear it.

Drink a Beer/Luke Bryan

Do you have a song that makes you cry whenever you hear it? Is there a song that brings back a favorite memory?

Have a blessed week,
