21 Days of Summer…

Foodie Friday Fragments

September 1, 2017

Friday Fragments are those bits and pieces of your week that are many but brief; too short for a stand-alone blog post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, and other small gems throughout your week and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Add a recipe or something ‘foodie’ from your week. Leave me a link to your post in the comments so I can read your fragments!

SEPTEMBER! I know it comes at the same time every year and every year I am not ready. I’m a summer soul and I had to smile when my favorite local weather gal, Sue Serio said we still have 22 days of summer left.

Like Spring, Fall always leaves me feeling like I need to hurry to get things done. My mind wants me to panic about the holidays already but I refuse to go there. I am going to enjoy each and every one of the next 22-summer days and then its pumpkin everything. The holidays can wait their turn. I have a beach getaway coming up!

Speaking of September 22…my oldest granddaughter Allyson will be 22 on the 22nd.

With my own kids long grown and off with their own families I was missing the whole back to school rush. Now I get a second chance with my grandkids.

The Photos and videos from Texas are so hard to see but in all honesty it’s reaffirming that while there may be racist, criminals, bigots etc… among us their numbers are so few, really low. Thinking of the churches and temples across this country and how full they are on Saturdays and Sundays confirms for me that good people greatly outnumber the bad. Watching all of those volunteers and even the victims themselves helping each other, people risking their lives to save pets and the thousands of organizations and individuals across the country sending diapers, medicine and most needed money is so heartwarming.

Personally I am committing myself to making a difference by actually doing something, hands on as often as I can for those in my family that need a little help and for those in my community that could use a hand up.

Last Monday one of the organizations I belong to, FemCityPhiladelphia had a volunteer day at Philabundance. Not only did it feel good to know we were providing food for our friends and neighbors in need it felt amazing to be doing it together. The sign on the wall at Philabundance said it all:

We packed nearly 8,000 lbs. of food! I’m looking forward to volunteering again.

Do you have a FemCity affiliate in your city? If not maybe you could start one…

Best wishes for a blessed Labor Day Weekend.
